Monument
(2020-present)
The Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and one of the most popular industrial monuments. It was ranked by The Guardian among the 10 best parks in the world. The former coal and steel production plant was abandoned in 1985. In the years that followed, this large site was extensively redesigned into a public park with the aim of preserving most of its original appearance. In addition, the surrounding areas were renatured and integrated into nature.
In
Monument I return to my former hometown Duisburg to make a personal series
about the Landschaftspark. The selected photographs were taken on several
occasions between 2020 and 2022. I seek to escape the common view and focus on
nondescript spaces, structures and surfaces. Through the documentary
perspective, a mysterious aura emerges and
intensifies the sense of past time. The
outcome is my personal guide for a contemplative route through this exceptional
monument.
